At the Cake Channel they have been collecting images of what can only be described as incredibly macho groom’s cake ideas. Most of them were served up in real life at people’s weddings and were meant to be a source of humor and good fun. The groom’s cake was always meant to be a bit of an antithesis to the frilly feminine ways of the classic wedding cake. On the Cake Channel, these groom’s cake really do take the masculine principle to its extreme. One cake is shaped exactly like a dirty rubber boot. There is another that is made in the shape of a large glass of Guinness ale (and it is probably a Guinness Chocolate cake as well.). One of the most interesting offerings on here is a cake that looks like an armadillo that has just been run over by a truck. Other interesting ideas for groom’s cakes include a moose head, a set of barbells and a giant electric guitar!

The cakes below are made by Julie’s Cakes:

Believe it or not you can make your own cake toppers out of pipe cleaners. Of course this is best for a less formal wedding. You wouldn’t want a pipe cleaner bride and groom on top of a cake that was too formal looking. However, it is a style that does suit a wedding that is more home grown.

According to Craftzine magazine all you have to do is go to the craft store and buy some pipe cleaners and a few small round balls to serve as the bride and groom’s heads. You twist the pipe cleaners into shapes so that they look like bodies and then cloth them in a wedding dress or suit made out of fabric. You can then paint the face and hair on the round balls so that they resemble the bride and groom.

Of course because they are made out of pipe cleaners you can pose them in any position that you want. A nice touch is to have them embrace. So go ahead and be creative! That’s what pipe cleaner wedding topper art is for!

If you would rather buy one, the one shown is availabe at PatchNYC.com for $500.

Do you think that it is the one that you get your friend to bake? The one done from designs out of a book? That can add up for whoever is baking it. According to an article in The Southern, you need to budget by slice when thinking about wedding cake costs. Nowadays on average it can cost between one dollar and six dollars a slice for a wedding cake. Of course the really expensive designer cakes can cost even more than that. This really adds up. For instance a cake with 40 slices at 5 bucks a slice is $200. The absolutely cheapest cake you can get is the one that you can get in your Supermarket Bakery section. Many will layer a cake into tiers for you if you tell them what it is for and also decorate them. This is how you get that .25 a slice cake.

Palace themed wedding cakes also suit people who are having the literal “fairy-tale” wedding such as a medieval wedding or the Elvin style of wedding.

There are a number of wedding cake bakers out there online who can create absolute masterpieces for you when it comes to making wedding cakes that look like old-fashioned castles. You can get cakes made in the shape of the Tajo Mahan (done completely in fondant) or something that looks like it belongs it a Dr. Seuss cartoon. You can also get them done in every color including a sparkling marbleized fondant that looks like a real building façade.

You can see a large number of the different styles of architecture that can be replicated in icing and cake batter at eWeddingcake including designs that have gardens, drawbridges and even moats!

One of them is the Red Velvet Cake which has a soft reddish chocolate inside and is traditionally coated with a thick cream cheese based icing. This used to be more kitsch or retro, but now it is a mainstay cake flavor at many weddings.

Traditional carrot cake is also very popular. First of all it is the variation of the old fruit cake which is more traditional. Second of all it is tasty and healthy and likely to please all of the guests at your wedding.

Chocolate has never gone out of style when it comes to wedding cakes and it never will. The trendiest cakes nowadays are made out of bitter chocolate and covered with a raspberry flavored fondant.

Lemon is still a very popular flavor for wedding cakes. This flavor dates back to Victorian days. It is easy to make, light and there is no risk of allergies to things like chocolate or nuts like there is in the other wedding cakes. Consider lemon cake if any of your wedding guests have been known to have food allergies.

In fact doing this has become a real trend, probably because having such a variety of cake to choose from is such a people pleaser. Think dark chocolate and Kahlua filling or red velvet and cream cheese frosting in each layer. You could go for several different tiers. One idea would be a layer of orange, a layer of vanilla and a layer of cherry cake. Another way around this dilemma is to simply have more than one cake. The second cake, for the guy, is usually smaller and known as the groom’s cake. These are traditionally done in lush chocolate hues and flavors. It is also often an alcoholic cake as well. Yet another way to get different flavors into one cake is to go with cupcakes. You can have tiers or trays of these and each can be a different flavor!

They started as 19th century novelties and are now more popular than ever.

Writer Ann T. Hirsh who blogs on Daily News was able to get a description of the crown jewel of all wedding cakes – Queen Victoria’s Wedding Cake. When Queen Victoria married Prince Albert in 1840 her cake weighed 300 pounds, was nine feet in diameter and was topped with an ICE sculpture of Britannia. It makes one wonder if the sculpture melted down all over the cake and soaked it and how it tasted after that.

The first commercially produced cake toppers were manufactured in the 1920s and were modeled to look like Kewpie dolls which were angelic looking baby illustrations. During wartime in the 1940s the toppers wore military uniforms. Today’s figures of course are depicted doing everything from kissing to hiking their way up the cake to being dressed as every hobbyist imaginable.

You can find many vintage toppers like the one shown at Fancy Flours.

If you want to see an impressive display of fanciful wedding cakes you should check out the site of celebrity U.K. cake designer Heather Higgins. Her site, Sweet Art, features a variety of designer cakes, including three layer tiered cakes paved with glazed fondant and boasting fronds and sprays of flowers, stars and even angel wings. This talented artist also has a way of mashing up glitter in her fondant to create a completely unique looking gold wedding cake. She will also create cakes in unusual colors. For instance, it is not often you see a wedding cake in a bright raspberry red color that is actually an ombre, meaning that it goes from being a deep red at the bottom to an almost tie dyed light violet color at the top tier. This is quite an unusual but also very hip effect as hombre tablecloths and even wedding dresses are quite in at the moment thanks to the popularity of Gwen Stefanie’s raspberry and white wedding dress.

Edible pearls are not anything fancy. They are simply tiny balls of fondant that have been rolled into tiny balls. They are then dusted with real edible pearl dust to give them their solid and shiny appearance. Interestingly, pearl dust is also sometimes sprinkled into glasses of poured champagne at weddings to make the drink less acidic and give it an unearthly glow. You can see lots of cakes made with edible pearls at Wildflowers by Lori. There is a gorgeous pink fondant tiered cake on her site that is crowned by a fluffy cake topper of hydrangea blossoms. The rest of the tiers are ringed with edible pearls.?

According to Bride and Groom, a unique way to dispense wedding favors is to have a wedding candy buffet. These buffets bring out the childish and innocent side of both you and your guests, and they are a great way of thanking your guests for coming.

Another great thing about candy is that it can also be used to make great table centerpieces and decorations. This is especially true of the stick candy that can be used as centerpieces.

If you want to serve loose candy you need to get some candy bags or containers and then supply scoops so the guests can select which treats they want to take home. You could even have your names embellished on the gift bags as a memento for your guests to take a way.

When it comes to displaying candy clear bowls are good because they show off how pretty the candy is. You can even choose the candy so that it matches your wedding color theme. The wedding candy buffet table also looks cute if it is decorated with small framed pictures of the bride and groom as children.

The buffets pictured here are from Lisa’s Candy Buffet in New Jersey. If you are interested, give them a call at 908-278-4810.
