Laptop Wedding Cake

Did you meet your future spouse online? Was it a long distance relationship? Did you spend hours and hours chatting on I.M. before you even met?

If so then you might want to try this nifty idea found on Makezine which is to make two cakes in the shapes of laptops. These are just square pan cakes with one propped up to make a screen. It is easy enough to use fondant to make computer keeys and chords.

The crowning touch is to have gel pictures made of the bride and groom and put the picture of groom up on one lap top and the bride on another. You can then connect the two cakes with two cords. The cords can be played with in terms of design as well. They can be coiled so that they lie in a heart shape.

Talk about a sweet way to link two lovebirds together as if they were symbolically still cooing to each other online.

Winter wedding cakeIf you are planning a December wedding (and you might be because it is mid summer and your wedding date might be six months away.) then you might want to consider making a Winter Wonderland style wedding cake. This idea comes from Pink Cake Box which specializes in inspiring brides on their special day.

In essence this is a very simple cake to order up. It is essentiall a white tiered cake. You can have it square or round but it would probably look best with at least three tiers. The more molded the fondant is so that it looks like snow drifts the better. You can embellish this with a bow or for a very special touch buy crystal and rhinestone studded snowflake tree ornaments and position around the cake. The effect is very glamorous yet at the same time very light and whimsical.

double happiness cakeThe traditions associated with Chinese Wedding Cakes are a little different then what those of us raised in the Western tradition are used to it. Chinese wedding cakes are called “Happiness Cakes”, also known as “Dragon & Phoenix Cakes”.

Mostly these symbolic confections are yellow or almond cakes that have the symbol of a dragon and phoenix on the surface.  They can be filled with different types of paste including lotus seed, green bean, chestnut, walnut or red bean paste. To see examples of these types of traditional Chinese wedding cakes you can go to China Bridal.

Dragon and PhoenixUnlike in the West, the cake is not enjoyed at the wedding but rather presented to the bride’s family to the groom’s family.  It is meant to be a proposal gift. Some of the cakes will be given to a Buddha alter or left at a local place of worship.  However in the West some Chinese families simply mix traditions from both East and West by serving this type of cake at the wedding ceremony itself.

Pink Wedding CakeDon’t want to pay for a big wedding cake? Are you on a diet or diabetic? In that case you can now rent wedding cakes, which are, stand ins for the real thing. Some of the designs of these are very clever as is proved by some of the offerings at Cake Rental in Michigan. Some are topsy turvy and as sophisticated as the ones made on the television show “The Ace of Cakes” and still others are more traditional looking and consist of architecturally designed lacy white levels.

Basically the cost of renting a cake depends on how tall it is but in general a cake with three tiers costs about $100 to rent.  The cake is sent to you for your special day and there is an edible portion included. That is the portion that is cut in front of your guests during the cake slicing ceremony that is a part of most weddings. After the celebration is over you send the cake prop back to the Cake Rental place.

Dancing Cake TopperHave you ever thought about putting something besides the usual little plastic bride and groom at the top of your wedding cake and instead make a comment about the true nature of getting hitched.  If so then you will want to check out the witty best selling cake toppers at That’s My Topper.

One of the funniest of cake toppers is one called Commitment Issues. This shows the reluctant groom being dragged to the altar by the bride.  One that is in a similar vein is called Oh No You Don’t and shows the Bride trying to catch the groom who appears to be running away. Yet another one is the Ball and Chain Topper, which show the groom sitting on top the cake fettered by an iron ball to which the tiny bride statue holds the key.

If anything these cake toppers are very compelling conversation pieces and they certainly make wedding cake “food for thought.”

Guinness DraughtThey say that beer and chocolate don’t go well together except in one instance and that is when you combine that dark frothy beer known as Guinness along with cake batter. The result is one of the hottest confections to hit the web and the women’s magazines lately.

The great thing about Chocolate Guinness cake, which is also sometimes known as beer cake, is that is so masculine in flavor. It is also a dark color, which makes it ideal to be the look for a groomsman’s cake. Usually it is topped with a light cream cheese icing that has elements of cream cheese.  This kind of cake is definitely a food for a special occasion as the Guinness beer in it give it a specific tang.

There are many different types of recipes for this cake online. You can find one on Oprah’s website and there is also a really good healthy version of it at Everybody Likes Sandwiches.

Chocolate Wedding CakeIf you want to see a great selection of chocolate cakes then you might want to check out the selections at the Simply Chocolate website. It is amazing how many different types of confections can be created simply using white chocolate that is dyed.

Simply Chocolate wedding cakes are proof that the good chocolate taste comes in other colors than brown. A good example is the raspberry chocolate cake, which is covered with red icing and white chocolate fondant and filled with a raspberry and chocolate filling as well.

If you want a brown chocolate wedding cake with many tiers you can get it. One of the nicest colors that go with chocolate is bright orange. Bright pink also goes well with the dark color of chocolate. In fact Simply Chocolate is known for wrapping its cakes in satin ribbons that compliment the brown color of the chocolate fondant.

Bridal Shower Cake

At the bridal shower there are several different types of bridal cakes that you could present to the bride.

Cakes Rising has a sweet idea. Take a photograph of the bride and the groom when they were children into your local bakery. Most bakers have the ability nowadays to turn a photograph into decorations for the top of a cake.

Another nice idea is to have a miniature replica of the real wedding cake made and serve it to the bridal guests. It could be considered to be a “taste” of the happiness that is to come.

However if you are a close friend of the bride’s there is no reason why you can’t just make a beautiful home made cake of your own. There are lots of novelty cake pans out there for making your own clever design and you can also decorate the cake yourself to make it special.

Here are some more cute cake ideas from Cakes Unique.

Rainbow BouquetAre you wondering where to find sets of gay wedding cake toppers? You can find them at Your Gay Pride. There is nothing very unusual about the gay interpretation of them. You simply place two women or two men on top of the cake. There are some sites that sell different versions of the women but you have to surf around for them.

The wedding cake topper that officially symbolizes gay pride is alos found on Your Gay Pride. It is actually a bundle of brightly colored roses that are meant to be placed on top of the cake and give the appearance of a garden growing. The official name of the cake topper is the original Everlasting Rainbow Rose Bouquet designed by Gay Pride Direct. Each bouquet consists of six roses and each is a different color and is offset by prongs that represent “greens”. The rose buds themselves are approximately two inches across. They are hand carved and made of birch wood and they can be given to guests at your gay wedding as souvenirs to take home. This wedding topper is also quite affordable at only $12.99 a bouquet.
